Afortunadamente no me costó mucho adaptarme a Port-Gentil, aunque esa adaptación fue más rápida gracias al hecho de que mi esposo había llegado unos meses antes que yo, que ya había iniciado mi nueva profesión en Escocia y tenía más claro lo que quería, y que conocí amigos que me hicieron sentir como si los conociera de toda la vida. Si algo he aprendido de vivir en 5 países a lo largo de mi vida, es que somos felices en diferentes lugares gracias a la gente, es ese calor humano, esos amigos que se convierten en familia, son ellos los que hacen la diferencia y hacen que te sientas a gusto, como en casa. El hablar francés y sentirme cómoda con el idioma también fue un factor importante, no es lo mismo llegar a un país hablando el idioma que no entendiendo ni un carajo. Esto no solo te ayuda a comunicarte, te hace independiente y te ayuda a entender la cultura y el porqué de tantas cosas tan ajenas y diferentes a nosotros. El Covid nos cambió la vida a muchos, nos hizo reflexionar sobre muchas cosas y sobre todo, nos hizo apretar el freno. Para mí, el Covid sacó ese sentimiento de “destierro” que muchas veces siento, uno con el cual he aprendido a vivir a lo largo de los años, pero que apenas ahora empiezo a entender y a verlo desde otro punto de vista. Algo que seguro comparto con muchas personas. A causa del Covid tuvimos que postergar algunos planes, uno de ellos, nuestra mudanza a Gabón. Sin embargo, ahora, un año y medio desde que se concretó nuestra aventura africana, me lanzo de nuevo a escribir en este blog desde mi casita en Gabón. Un poquito sobre Gabón… ¿Gabón? Les confieso que cuando mi esposo me dijo que nos íbamos a Gabón, tuve que buscar en un mapa dónde en África quedaba. Itinerario de la North Coast 500

A finales de julio/principios de agosto de 2020, tuvimos la oportunidad de hacer un viaje por carretera por Escocia y hacer el muy conocido circuito (itinerario) de la North Coast 500 (la Costa Norte 500). Su nombre se debe a que esta ruta que pasa por toda la costa norte de Escocia, iniciando en Inverness, cuenta con 500 millas (unos 830 kilómetros). La North Coast 500 esta hecha para que comience en Inverness y dé la vuelta por Applecross, subiendo por Gairloch, Ullapool, Durness, Thurso, John O’ Groats, Wick, Dornoch y terminando de nuevo en Inverness. Sin embargo, nosotros decidimos hacer la ruta North Coast 500 al revés, empezando por Dornoch y terminando por Applecross. Esta ruta cuenta con una página oficial (https://www.northcoast500.com/), en la cual podemos encontrar más información e incluso comprar una guía de esta. En nuestro itinerario de la North Coast 500, nosotros decidimos agregarle algunas paradas más que no se encuentran en el itinerario “oficial”. Transit Visas in China – [Visas de Transito en la China]

In a previous post I explained how China requires a visa for most citizens to enter the country, however, there’s a small loophole to that. China has in place a 72-hour and 144-hour transit visas. The really interesting visa is the 144 hours one, equal to 6 days, and was implemented to increase tourism in the area. The policy was put into place this year (2016) and covers only the cities of Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. However, only nationals of certain countries can enjoy this special transit visa. The downside of this visa is that you cannot leave the city it was delivered in, but on the other hand, Shanghai is big and interesting enough for you to spend 6 days there. The 72-hour policy only includes 18 cities for the moment, and you are required to leave through the same airport you entered. Three days might seem short, but if you’re wanting to visit say, Beijing, while avoiding all the visa hassle it may already seem like the better option. Two Week Bali Itinerary [Indonesia]

If you’re visiting Bali, two weeks give you just the right amount of time to enjoy the island. Sure you can do one week and then go elsewhere in South East Asia, but you will miss out on a lot of great things. The best way to travel the island is by hiring a driver. You can find one at your hotel, in a restaurant, at the market… Pretty much anywhere, someone will know someone who can drive you. This itinerary includes the whole island (including Gili Trawangan) with the exception of the far west side. The actual reason we went was to see Muse play that Thursday night at a festival, Garo Rock, near Bordeaux in Marmande. Our plan was to rent a house though Airbnb, and sleep close to Marmande the night of the concert; then the following day head to Bordeaux to spend the rest of the weekend there. Two weeks ago, it was my boyfriend’s birthday. Since in France that Thursday was a holiday, we decided to take a trip over the long weekend. Our destination: Valencia, España! Being in the South of France, Spain is very close and it’s a very economical destination. To be honest, I knew very little about Valencia other than… oranges! However, I came upon a big city with the heart of a small town, where history and traditions live with innovation and globalization.
